When three Linux journos go crowdfunding
Three journalists who worked on the UK newsstand publication Linux Format have struck out on their own and are using crowdfunding to get a new magazine off the ground.
Less than a week into their Indiegogo campaign, Andrew Gregory, Mike Saunders and Ben Everard are already a third of the way to reaching the £90,000 launch budget for Linux Voice.
The team has come up with some interesting twists that should play well to the Linux heartlands:
We feel that Linux Voice isn’t just a new magazine, but a new style of magazine that puts its readers and community ahead of profit, while at the same time, not compromising on quality.
1) We will put 50% of our profits back into the community.
2) We aim to make all of our content available under a creative commons licence after nine months.
3) We will serve only our readers, not shareholders or a board of directors.
