Money2020: A Duck Dynasty Running Shoe? TV And Crowdfunding Intersect On A&E

Spira’s springloaded shoes campaign raised $42,700 in 2012. On A&E and RocketHub’s Project Startup they’ve raised $317,000 in 2013 so far.

Spira has experienced record success wtih the help of RocketHub and A&E.

I had the great opportunity this week to moderate a panel at the second annual Money2020 trade show event in Las Vegas, Project Startup: Crowdfunding Hits A&E TV, with Project Startup partners Libby O’Connell, SVP of Corporate Outreach for A&E Networksand Chief Historian to the History Channel, and Brian Meece, CEO and Co-Founder of popular crowdfunding platform RocketHubDisclosures: My agency has no business relationship with either company, nor with Money2020.

We had fun with the fact A&E was most certainly the only TV station at the trade show that day. I became aware of Project Startup when I had the opportunity to break the news of this partnership in April.

Clearly, television has a growing love affair with entrepreneurs. In addition to Shark Tank and UnderCover Boss on the major networks A&E has major hits on its hands with shows such as Duck Dynasty and Shipping Wars. O’Connell noted that the A&E show Storage Wars is now spawning new regional children.
