JustGiving develops crowdfunding site Yimby

Digital fundraising platform JustGiving has created Yimby.com, a crowdfunding service to help people in the UK raise funds for a cause or local project that matters to them.

It helps individuals and groups to fund community initiatives that are not necessarily affiliated with a charity. This can range from purchasing basketball wheelchairs, through planting community gardens, funding computers for an after-school club, to providing mentoring programmes for young people.

‘Yimby’ turns the notion of ‘not in my backyard’ or ‘Nimby’ on its head into a more positive ‘Yes in my backyard’.

It is built on JustGiving’s platform, and was part-funded by a £50,000 NESTA Innovation in Giving grant.

Users of Yimby have 30 days in which to promote their campaign via social and other networks. If a project does not hit its target within the allotted 30 days, payments will not be taken and donors will not be charged.

JustGiving, founded in 2001, has now helped raised £1.6 billion for 13,000 charities in the UK and around the world. Over 21 million people have used it to raise funds.
